In 1980 I was on my way to being a very successful jewelry fashion show director and district manager. I had ten directors under me in my sales division. We were winning awards for outstanding sales. Then I got Born Again - again. I guess I should say that I came out of a backslidden state. None of the "Christian type" words were familiar to me at the time; Catholic girl that I was.

I worked a few more months in my sales business. But one day this scripture came alive in my heart: "No man can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money! Matt. 6:24 Immediately I resigned my position.

Now, I am not saying that you cannot be a Christian and be in the sales business. But for me there was a choice to make. The Lord knew how I was wired, (I get pretty passionate about what I do) and He wanted to make sure I did not get distracted away from loving Him and from being devoted to His plan for my life.

This month of February we have been reflecting on love. Would you take a few minutes of time to think about where your affections lie? Are you serving two masters? Is your job, your ministry, your paycheck, your life insurance, your retirement, your 401k , (or some works of the flesh) what you are serving? May I urge you to do what you need to do responsibly, but be sure that your devotion and your passionate love is focused on the Lord! The heavens and the earth will pass away but the love you cultivate for God today will carry you for all eternity.
